Starlink Setup and Testing

SpaceX Starlink is an absolute GAME CHANGER. This is not an exaggeration...this product has the potential to change the world. Starlink will enable all of those remote spots with little to no access to high-speed, low-latency Internet to have access to one of the greatest resources in human civilization. I am personally very excited to see how Starlink will grow and change over time - BUT - it all starts with the initial setup. So in this video, I unbox my Starlink satellite and get it all set up...then we run some speed tests to see what kind of performance I get here in Oregon.

I have one question that I cant seem to get an answer on. Will the dish work on a vessel in motion such as a boat or buoy? or must it be stationary at all time? Will the motorized adjustment be able to keep up with a vessel's movement? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  2. Crosstalk Solutions

    Crosstalk Solutions10 klukkustundum síðan

Does not seem to be possible yet, but considering that other satellite technology works fine in boats, I'm sure there will be a Starlink answer to this in the future as well.

Thanks for sharing the setup layout. The laptop connection confirms it has a spare ethernet port - which is what i was looking for - not everyone can rely on their native WiFi: especially people with large houses. The question is: can you turn off the native WiFi once the setup is complete and rely solely on the Ethernet port from there on?

Have you heard anything from anyone about what routers to use? I think I saw a video or article where someone was not happy with the Starlink router and they chose to use one they bought or used before with whatever TV service provider they had before Starlink. I am not sure whether to hook up the Starlink router or hook up to the Comcast/Xfinity router.

Does the dish autotrack continuously? According to "the internet", Starlink satellites have a period of about 100 minutes. That's about 25 minutes for a 90-degree sweep of orbit/sky.

  44. bruzote

    bruzote24 dögum síðan

I just realized you said it uses a phased array. I assume it then only moves in cases where the sky becomes obstructed where it was previously clear.

For 7 $ we get daily unlimited data (2 gb High Speed and after that 2mbs unlimited data) , unlimited call and 100 sms daily for 84 days. Data in India is extremely cheap. for 3 dollars you get around 250 gb of high speed internet on mobile networks. Broadbands are much cheaper and much faster that this. We get upto 150 mbps speed of unlimited data at 20 dollars per month. You can get upto 10gbps of speed at a reasonable price here.

Elon is notorious for breaking promises, so I would not count on it. I would have been the owner of a Tesla Model 3 after putting down a deposit on one. I was number 200,000 something in line. I cancelled after they took so long that the tax benefits had expired. Instead of delivering by place in line, they delivered by state. They had possessed my deposit for well over a year. It was a free loan to them. Basically, they screwed over people like me. Elon makes things happen just like politicians. Promise the moon and underdeliver. They can always apologize later.
