And I paid for 400mb internet for 90 dollars a month and the connection blows but if this sht can do that right out the box for 500 dollars start up and free for how ever long the dish stays working holy sht that is fire.

My city has traditional fiber, cable and telephone internet but it also has Starry which works with cell service base stations, and there's 5G home internet... Compared to just 5 years ago when we had just cable or telephone, internet service is becoming a crowded space

3mb/s is ok Or you could just give me 1 gigabit per second wifi

i currently pay 140$ a month for an avg of 1mb/s and max of 1.8 mb/s with a ping of 650 (600 on the EXTREME low end) and a data cap of 100Gb in southern BC. This will be a god send for me and my daughter.

Battlehymn634 klukkustundum síðan
What you have presented here is just somewhat of an extension of StarLink marketing rhetoric. You would need a very agile specialized antenna pedestal to use this on a mobile platform because you introduce pitch, roll and yaw to the tracking algorithm. While a phased array can accomplish beam steering, in and of itself, it's not agile or fast enough to maintain acceptable eb/no for data lock while pitching, rolling and yawing. It is also important to note that you don't just lock on to one satellite, I mean initially you do, but the satellite footprint is moving very quickly and the footprints overlap, when the near the edges of the footprint there is a handoff and this is also where the crosslinks come into play ... satellite 1 will release your terminal base address and hand it over to satellite 2. One other bit of information that leads to the low latency is that the low earth obit satellites are much closer than the typical geostationary satellites we use today and this nearness means that it takes less time from the signal to travel. My one big concern with StarLink is that nowhere have I seen anything with regard to end-to-end encryption, which means it could be highly susceptible to spoofing or hijacking.

I have adsl in Montana and get near 100 milliseconds of latency from my local isp to my house. Only 2.5 mbps/ 500kbps on a good day for over $100 usd per month. So this is life changing for us. My daughter cannot even do online schooling due to the quality of our internet. When I asked about the time frame for upgrades to our internet with our local phone cooperative via twitter they blocked me. So this would be amazing. We do not even have cellphone coverage here.

You think that Ping is problematic? I can only get Hughesnet or Viasat, and can tell you Viasat at $80/mo is advertised at 25mb/s - actual speed test is around 19mbs down.... and ping? 610! Yes, it's consistently over 600. So painful. Starlink here I come... now what can I sell to come up w/ $600 initial buy in?

7:00 min it is still faster than my Internet here in Germany… Countryside Internet. :S 30ms Ping, 40k download and 8 upload(speedtest . net used). It is the fastest what we can get. The next faster one would be a "company/business" connection which means they have to open up the ground again.. so Starlink is better than German Internet* (Countryside)

Anyone know the power requirements and if Starlink can be used for RV's and stationary off grid locations? Has anyone tried to power the 90 watt power supply with an inverter connected to a solar charged 12 volt battery? We have a different location in the summer than in the winter. Is it hard to move the location of the Starlink assuming there is coverage at both locations? Thanks.

I'm in the beta but waiting for my dish now. Where I live, I can only get one megabit. Not Byte, bit. I use my phones unlimited internet with a rooted hotspot because it's five times faster. My Ping tends to be in the 200s during the day though. After midnight it goes down to 70ish. Can't wait for my Starlink. Fourteen years of shit internet and the providers have zero plans to ever upgrade the cables in my area. There are a few dozen other houses in my semi-rural neighborhood and the high-speed fiber runs down the length of the highway less than 200feet from my house and they will not run lines to any of us.

2:11 FaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! This was me in 2015 and here's the thing about that! In Atlanta, about 6 years ago, Google was trying to rollout their internet service with a much higher speed with their Gigabit internet. It was one of many cities chosen in an effort to compete with the likes of Comcast and ATT. However, things didn't pan out as well as they have planned. Limited in coverage based on the fact that they can't use existing utility poles because it was owned by the competitor and it was one huge mess. I am 3.7 miles from the nearest neighborhood that services the area and I internally weep every time I realize that. 3:31 500 dollar starter kit! WOW! 13:12 In other words, spacial billiards.

Why do they say you get a thousand megabytes but when you test the internet... you only get a hundred and something? This has to change. I just want them to call it whatever it is or at least close to it. I paid for a thousand now and I don't even get half that. And I'm not upset at the service I get... I'm upset that I pay for a service that I only get half of.... they just need to call it whatever it is.

I always react when I hear data-cap in anything except mobile (and I honestly think data-cap on mobile should've stayed in the Pre-Covid world). 7:30 I got my anime by burning DVD's at my friends place because he had a usable internet speed (broadband, obviously)- And we're talking about the 2000's here so the files were rather small 125-250MB and I was happy when I reach double digits Kb! This is the only really worthwhile tech news I remember hearing in the last 10 or so years. Combined with the rise of remote working, I can come closer to the dream of abandoning the shitty confines of living on dry land. Not really interested in living in some depressing house paying property taxes and commuting when I could sit in a sailboat in bloody French Polynesia and get things done online. Equip the boat with enough LiPO4 batteries and solar and I'm golden.

It is super cool for those living in areas with low coverage. Just a bit sad you cannot travel and bring it with you. Would have been a nice option for full time RVing. The FAQ is clear about this : ''Your Starlink is assigned to a single cell. If you move your Starlink outside of its assigned cell, a satellite will not be scheduled to serve your Starlink and you will not receive internet. This is constrained by geometry and is not arbitrary geofencing.''
